BB5 is a collection of asides that I’ve worked on whilst working on my next album; fulfilling the role of 'playtime between lessons’ or what I call 'Sidechain Therapy’. All have been prompted by an event, a discovery in the loft, a journey to a distant place or just a glassy eyed musing; and like all of my Building Block releases they are a snapshot into my journey towards a larger body of work… my forthcoming album.

'A Long Wave’…I used to love pressing record on my tape recorder when I was a child and dialling along the Longwave section of our rather large old radio. A very solitary pastime, but one that kept me fascinated. The voices you hear are all from a 30 second time frame, broadcast one evening when I was 8 years old. This piece serves as a long distance wave to my former, younger self.

'Cloud Machines’… Clouds are actually little machines, wound up and released to travel across the sky. Their job is to collect water like giant sponges and when they collect too much they overflow. They’re very sensible, and nearly always travel in the same direction so they don’t crash. However when they do crash, it’s very exciting.

‘Tallinn’… Recently I visited Tallinn in Estonia. The first time in 20 years. I had a lovely hotel room high up in the city, surrounded by glass and was able to sit for several days watching the city breathe. It has changed a lot in 20 years, but it has a stillness and a light that I remember from before. Tallinn daydreams are different from other ones.

'The Cheek of Daniel’…Daniel was an old class mate of mine, who lost his personal battle against illness in recent times. He showed everyone around him the power of positivity and the futility of pessimism in the face of adversity. This tune is for the excess hope that he left behind for others to use.
